"Happiness is meeting an old friend after a long time and feeling like nothing has changed" - Chris Dar
I was over the moon excited to meet up with my high school friend Timarie. She messaged me when she found out I was in the area to remind me that she lived there. She was going to come to me, but everyone told me to go to her because she lived in such a beautiful part of Washington. So off to gorgeous Snoqualmie I went.
It was wonderful to catch up with Timarie. We talked for hours. It was as if nothing had changed, but at the same time, so much had changed in our lives, and we weren't the same people we were in high school. All of the changes and time didn't matter. We just talked and shared what had transpired since we had seen each other some thirty years ago. It was beautiful. She was just as warm, welcoming, and funny as I remembered her.
WOW! I'm so glad I was encouraged to drive here. The drive over was beautiful. It is a charming town about 30 miles from Seattle. Twin Peaks was filmed in and around here for those interested. People come from all over the world to see Snoqualmie Falls. I can see the attraction. They are just stunning.
Timarie and I drank and ate our way through Snoqualmie and visited some fantastic places. (This seems to be a theme for me recently. lol)
We visited (I'm not happy with the name) Rattlesnake Lake. I believe this is also Rattlesnake Mountain in the background. It was so peaceful here. I was relieved to read that there are no rattlesnakes here. It got its name from a Seattle pioneer, Arthur A. Denny. He was carrying seed pods, and the rattling scared a nearby road surveyor into thinking he was being attacked by rattlesnakes, not knowing there were no rattlesnakes in this area.
Timarie said the water level was shallow because she had never seen the tree stumps before when she had kayaked here. I thought they looked interesting.
We went to Snoqualmie Point Park, where there were views of the Cascades and Snoqualmie Pass. It was a fantastic day, and I was sad to leave. Thank you, Timarie, for spending the day with me, catching up, all of the laughs, and sharing your beautiful city with me.
I returned just in time to have dinner with Erik's friends, who had so graciously let Fern spend a few days in their driveway. This is the view from their deck... Gorgeous and so peaceful at sunset. We had an incredible dinner and talked for hours. They throw an epic Halloween party and wanted me to stay another week with them so I could attend the party. It was SO tempting, but after a week, I was ready to hit the road with Fern and start exploring again.
On my last morning, the sun came out, and the recent rain removed all lingering smoke in the air. This was the view I couldn't see because of the smoke.
I took it as a sign that I needed to take a ride on a kayak before I left. It was a little cool but well worth it. The sun felt so lovely and warmed me on my ride. It was the perfect peaceful ending to this fantastic trip to Washington.
I left the apartment and traveled the short distance to get Fern. I was almost excited to see her and hit the road for more adventures. Erik's friend was kind and checked Fern to ensure everything was in order before I left. He changed my hitch because it rode too low and even added a different chain. I was so grateful for the kindness of him and his wife. They welcomed me back to their home when I returned, and I will return to this beautiful state sooner rather than later.
Next stop... Cannon Beach!
