"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." - Lao Tzu
This quote is so relevant to me, but it should be... "The journey of thousands of miles begins with thinking and then rethinking the decision you think you want to make, then take a few steps and rethink again!" - Jamie Gadberry. Feel free to use this quote if you like. 😊
Recently, we have all seen the popularity of campervans soar to an all-time high. You can't scroll through social media without seeing someone doing a remodel on one or living their best life in one after. At first, I was fascinated by the concept and wondered how someone could travel like that. Then, I began to envy the freedom they must have slowly. The incredible experiences they were having. All of a sudden... I found myself wishing I could be one of these people... These campervan people!
I looked into the possibility and realized I couldn't afford to purchase a campervan. I wondered, however... How could I still make this growing dream of mine a reality? My girlfriend and I brainstormed ideas. At first, I thought I would be a popup camper person and travel that way. Then, I found Fern!
I was nervous when I realized my dream could become a reality. I would become a travel-trailer person!
“I thought, "Am I fearless and courageous enough to do this?" "Do I really want to do this?" The answer at the time was a solid "Maybe."
I purchased Fern and jumped into fixing her up. It was a lot of work but so much fun. I had never done anything like this, and I felt such a sense of accomplishment with every little project I completed. My confidence was slowly growing. I completed her remodel in about six weeks with the help of some incredible friends and strangers along the way.
I began to list why I wanted to take this trip. I added to it as the days went by. These are some of the items on my list.
Go on a journey of self-discovery and self-love.
Break my heart open with wonder, love, curiosity, and gratitude
Prove to myself that I can do this - I can be brave and fiercely independent.
Instead of collecting things, I want to collect experiences.
Learn how to follow my path and intuition better and only commit to things and people who bring me joy.
See all the fantastic things the US offers that I've never explored.
Spend some time away from the cold Minnesota winter
Find my voice - This is a big one!
Why Not?
There are a few more that I might share later. As I travel on my journey, I plan to reflect on this list and add so much more to the experience.
Stay Wild 🌿
