Fern got her name because she is... up there in age, she is sturdy, her name means protection, and she's now green. She underwent an extensive renovation before we took off on our trip.
Fern is a 1968 Forester. What most would consider a "vintage" camper. I have to wonder, does that make me "vintage"? I'm a year younger than Fern. Some days I feel a little vintage. 😊
Most of her remodeling was cosmetic, but it made her feel peaceful and like home. That was super important to me if I was going to spend months living here. One of my favorite upgrades was her Stay Wild decal. It was one of the first purchases I made. We found it on Etsy from LilAngelGraphix. The wallpaper was another of my favorites, and I purchased it at Menards.
She got new paint, wallpaper, flooring, and of course, lots of throw pillows! I had never hung wallpaper, so the perfectionist in me struggled immensely! I ordered rechargeable light bulbs for my lamps and an electrical heater. She had the original icebox that came with the camper. I replaced it with an RTIC ice chest and a small microwave. It's not in the picture, but a friend mounted a shelf above the ice chest for the microwave to set. My friend Becky and I also make sheer white curtains for the windows and put one covering the opening to the ice chest.
Everything was attached to the walls with heavy-duty velcro. Brene's book Braving the Wilderness was perfect for the trip! Fern is ready to go; now I need to prepare myself. That could take a minute!
